Moderation on Forum is usually a good thing, dim. But being "free" to push an argument down some one's "Throat" on the basis that the person pushing the argument is right and if the other person disagrees then they are intellectually challenged is just a feeding of peoples ego's. Also to be "free" to use words and ideas in such a way that the discussion is, as far as the protagonist is concerned a one way street, in an anything goes scenario, and to be offensive, bullying, aggressive and Tank like, without redress by the other person, is just a license not for intellectual thought but narrow minded, bludgeoning argument, which is fine if you are inclined that way..:snork:
Moderation is not policing a Forum in a repressive way, but it is a way of ensuring that members of any forum can discuss any subject without being offended , insulted, or denigrated by another member, and can therefore enjoy what the Forum and it's members has to offer.:snork:

yea, but some people are trolls, and try and wind up other people continuously ....

some are strong headed and respond likewise .... so I know as a moderator, it's difficult, ....

and one of the hardest things about being a moderator, is to remain impartial, not disclose your own personal thoughts under your moderator name, and most importantly, to be able to spot a troll and not take sides

Sorry, i missed this post earlier.

My point is not whether or not Obama is a Muslim. My point was that the way people reacted at the suggestion that he was a Muslim was shocking. It was thrown about like a dirty word. Obama's enemies threw the word at him like it was their ace card, their nuke, and Obama's side reacted as though they'd just been spat on. Really it shouldn't have even been newsworthy. Someone once suggested I was Jew, which I'm not as it happens, but if I was so what? I laughed at them, and that was the end of that.

I haven't heard that to be the case on any reputable news site, that's not to say its not true, but in any case, still so what? Surely if he meets whatever criteria is required to be the US president, then surely everything else is his personal business. And if he did lie about something personal to him, so what? Surely that's got to be better than, for example, lying about some other dictator's readiness for war?

      Getting back on track.

I would like to know why we think we should be discussing gun laws in the US, how about gun laws in Syria, Israel or any other of those violent countries.
*dim* mentioned S Africa, another violent place.
They are different places, have different ways of life, that to us seem very alien.

But I do think in those kind of countries you are at the very least allowed to defend yourself if attacked.
In the UK you are very likely to be arrested if you do so, even if found innocent, after being dragged through the courts for a couple of years or so, you will probably be broke, unemployed and shunned.

We live in a very "safe" gun free society, ask anyone who has been shot recently.

We have also had our share of mass shootings, bearing in mind we are much smaller than the US, with a smaller population.
Usually followed by some stupid "knee jerk" reaction from government by bringing in new laws.

Successive British governments seem unable to understand that laws only affect the law abiding public, and not the drug dealers/gangs out there.

I dont think we have much to be smug about when it comes to gun laws, because ours dont work either.

I hope both dim and Hydro will note that I have moderated their posts in relation to the high emotions displayed and which are well off track of the subject of the Thread. Should that continue I will close the Thread and refer the matter for Admin consensus.:paladin:
