    I heard about this on the news this morning but i assumed she had been in her car fo some reason, 30mph does not even sound fast enough to do something like that to a tree what an awefull way to go... :sad:

    I agree 30mph doesn't sound like much, the branch was probably heavy with rain and possibly weak also.
    I'm sure Health and Safety will find someone to blame.

    A sad death, and a freak accident.

    I live about five or six miles away from Kew (at the most), and in the hour preceding the accident, there was some very heavy rainfall; I wouldn't have said the winds were all that high, but bearing in mind that the trees are still in full leaf the branches would be heavily weighted by the water alone.

    I sincerely hope that the HSE don't find anyone culpable/responsible, however I have a sneaky suspicion that we might see Kew closing on days when there is heavy rainfall and anything more than a moderate wind.
