    Holy mackerel:hate-shocked:

    £1706.19 for a new clutch and flywheel:ouch1:

Last time I had to get a new clutch put in, it was £290 for the clutch kit and labour, including flywheel skim.

        FC is male. :)

I've checked PNC and so far, he is not on record as a transvestite. Mind you, just because he hasn't been *caught* yet ....

Luv ya, FC  (Now, go put your slippers on before you hurt your calf muscles!)

The question was what footwear not what sex are you.
Its all very well having a problem but if you can find the cure the chances are you'll know next time.

Fair to say, in this particular instance, the problem lies with the mechanics of the vehicle and not the choice of footwear of the user :) The problem has now been evidenced. :dbgrtmb:

And spec savers are doing free eye test for over 60's

We know its mechanics! but how did it get to be damaged in the way it is?

As its a manual gear change & the foot is the only way of de-pressing the clutch !
Wouldnt you agree that it may be bad clutch control! is this not a question thats worth thinking about?:wallbanging:

Only the driver knows what footwear is being used,

My own car is automatic gearbox and if you wear wide shoe's or boots you've a good chance of applying the brake when your trying to increase the speed using excell/peddle.
Hence i dont wear boots or wide fitting shoes while im driving, If i did i know the risk im taking,
How do i know this!! (no i didnt read it in a book) i found out by trying to increase my speed while i was also pushing down on the brake peddle,
The owners manual and the safe driving booklet didnt say a thing about any of this.

So if our friend with clutch proplems was to have this work done by the dealership and a few weeks later went back with the same problem dont you think questions would be asked ref the driver and how they drove the car ?

Man or woman both can have footwear with heels on them (ask any short arse how they increase their height! "its not by jumping up and down" or standing on a chair.

                    I rest my case:phew:

moonraker - I am male (or at least I was when I looked in the shower this morning :snork:) and I wear flat, sensible shoes for driving (when I go for clothes or shoes, I simply ask to be directed to the 'Dull and Dowdy Department'); I am also the holder of a full, manual PCV licence, and have nearly 20 years driving under my belt - in all those years, I have only had to replace one clutch on a car (and it was knackered the day I bought it), and have never killed one on any coaches or lorries that I have driven.

Besides that, I have done approximately 1500 miles in this car since I bought it - unless the clutch plate and flywheel are made of cheese, I would suggest that it is highly unlikely that it is my driving that is the cause.

However, your point is a good one, in that the previous owner was likely to be one of those with a lead left foot and has been riding the clutch unnecessarily - given that I have fairly recently purchased this vehicle for the thick end of £13k, I don't think it is unreasonable that it has a transmission that works without juddering or the need to double de-clutch just to get second gear of a morning.

The price of clutches etc on modern vehicles is horrendous - although, a lot of the cost is also due to the dual mass flywheel needing replacing too (I understand that these are around £500 minimum just for the part).

I'd reckon that a small independent garage would do this same repair for around £1300, however under the circumstances I felt it prudent to get a full and proper assessment of the vehicle, and not leave any ambiguity as to whether the diagnosis or quote was correct.

EDIT - Mum - I'm glad you luvs me, somebody's got to (even if I do wear dull shoes! )

Sorry to hear you still have problems FC, I hope the garage sees sense and pays for the repair now.
