Growing veg through a membrane

I have been having thoughts about using this system, but im not sure which crops I should use it with. Does anyone have any experience with this?

 

All my brassicas are grown through membrane - saves hours of weeding and also helps reduce cabbage root fly and to some extent slugs. I also grow my leeks through membrane to good effect. My corgetttes get the benefit of a membrane mat, again it saves weeding and reduces slug damage. In fact any crops that are grown at wide spacing can be grown through membrane.

Tomatoes and squashes, etc. (courgettes, marrows, pumpkins, cucumbers) all grow really well through sheet plastic mulch.
