    Perhaps you had better line it with Polythene then.
    It wont take much effort and it would put your mind at rest:)

    I would line it, but not from fear of chemical egress. You want to put a barrier between the wood and the constantly moist soil.

    This will have two benefits:
    • The wood will not rot so fast.
    • The amount of watering will be reduced greatly.

    Water will still get trapped in between the barrier and the boards. For the added effort and cost I wouldn't bother. Where are you siting the box?

    Definitely wouldn't bother with a lining. Dig over the base dirt, site the box and fill 'er up :)

    No significance, its just the Thumbs-Up emoticon available on this forum and happens to be blue ... although its been snowing here today, maybe the thumb will turn orange in a few days?!!
