Hi all, great forum. I have some questions about a pair of old Hunter Wellies and a old pair of boots. I thought I'd throw them in the garbage, they're not particularly hygienic anymore or can they be recycled in some way or is it simply just trash. Would love to hear what you think about this before they go in the garbage.

Either plant something in them or give them to charity. You could also freecycle them.
Welcome to GC. Nice to have you with us. :)

    Hello and welcome:)

What about this for an idea. I think it will look quite cool. Make some drainage holes in the soles or somewhere else discrete. Drive a short bamboo cane straight down through each boot, into the ground, so as to hold the boots upright in pairs as though somebody is standing in them. Then fill with compost and plant them up. I think either something tall and narrow, or something small and trailing to spill over the sides. It would give your guests something to talk about as it would be a bit unusual and quirky but I think cool.

There's a brisk trade in trashed shoes on ebay. Check it out if you're broad-minded!

        :sign0016: Welcome to GC :)

They can certainly be recycled, but you will need to take them to your local recycling centre and put them into the designated skip; I took a couple of car loads to my local tip last week, and it is absolutely amazing just how much stuff gets recycled.

Out of this whole site clicky there is only one skip, about half the size of one of the lorries coming out of the back, that is used for landfill - absolutely everything else is recycled.

Yep, drive a bamboo cane right through each boot, ie in the top and straight through the sole and into the ground.
