Escallonia

    Hi everyone, ive come across whitish marks on an escallonia , there seems to be quite a lot on the main stem, does anyone know what this could be ?

    It's quite possibly just a type of Lichen rather than a Fungus, mick.

    The other, not so nice alternative is Cytospora Canker but that normally only attacks Spruce [So our Official Master Bee Keeper might have to watch out:heehee:.]

      I think it's white mycelium that grows on decaying material. I think you will find that the Escallonia is probably old and dying Mick, sorry.

        Thanks folks, It is an old escallonia and there is some rotting around the base. Mycelium is this whats associated with honey fungus ?

        It can be. Mycelium is usually what appears before any main fungus develops.
