We have a plasma TV but I wish we'd gone for LED. Plasma TVs generate a lot of 'hash' on short wave radio frequencies and I find that in the evenings when Mrs W is watching TV and I'm on my radio I have great trouble hearing weaker signals.:cry3:

Don't the screens on plasma TV' s get hot to the touch. We used to have one. All LCD's now.
What is the opinion on the new curved screens?

Budget? For all but the hardcore, I'd recommend LCD all the way. My Sharp tv is superb with perfect pic and excellent audio. Interestingly I found that different size tv's in the same range can be made by completely different companies due to screen sizes so one size would perform well whereas a smaller/bigger option might be poor. Worth reading lots of user reviews.

My process is usually to set a budget and screen size, read pro reviews, get user opinion from the likes of 'AVForum' and see what I can then actually get.

They do still get warm, albeit not as much as they used to do - Panasonic's NeoPDP screens moved the technology on a lot, producing less heat and much longer lasting.

I'm not convinced about the curved ones yet, but haven't seen any up close either so hard to judge.

You have to tread very carefully now - Panasonic and Samsung are two of very few brands that are actually made by the company themselves - even Sony who at one time were top if the TV tree don't make all their own any more, preferring instead to use third party manufacturers to make product for them to a pre-agreed spec.

One of the largest of these manufacturers is Vestel who are a Turkish company that specialise in budget electronic goods - often seen branded with many different badges such as Bush, Technika etc.

Many brands that we all know and remember now bear no relationship to the original brand - Grundig and Ferguson are two that spring to mind.

Others such as JVC allow their badge to be used on products that is not theirs.

Some of the budget kit made by third party companies actually isn't that bad, but it can be very hit and miss

Actually, now that I can see the picture fully, it appears that its even better value with a 5 year warranty if bought before 15th of next month - - - very doubtful that you would need a warranty, but nice to have.
