Easily mislaid in the garden IME :( Red handles help, but a homing device would be better!

I might give that a go Kristen. Any particular time best to do it? I did some hardwood cuttings from my Honeysuckle recently and they're doing fine but i can afford to lose a few stems from that, whereas i'm a bit weary about root cuttings on my new Salvia and want to do it at the right time - and do it right.

I think anytime (when growing) would be fine - when the plant is big enough to spare some shoots :)

I think I took some early in the season, to get some reasonable sized plants to overwinter, and then some more around August / September for "overwintering insurance" - left them in the pot until Spring and then potted up.

I just took some (preferably non-flowering) shoots, cut below a leaf pair, and inserted into some well draining compost (with hormone rooting gel, but that's probably not essential) and put a plastic bag over the pot with rubber band and stuck it somewhere out of direct sunlight.

Sorry Kristen, you mentioned roots the first time. Did you mean shoots as i'll be ok doing that hopefully.
