Pole-evasii is a sub-species of pallididflora. They can be hardy if planted deep and given protection. Mine are huge - the leaves are about 3' long. Last year I had one flower and it was up to my shoulder. There are 3 that have put up stalks. I also have a red leafed E. comosa and a couple of E. autumnalis. They can grow outside in the ground here, just making sure the crowns are buried or the slugs will get them.

Hiya Peter ... I have tried the Coco Palm several times here, as has my friend on my recommendation and we have not been able to overwinter them ...

On the other hand, my Iochroma cyanea 'Plum Paradise' is fantastic and I have to keep cutting it back (not this year's photo).

Sadly never did get the rooting of Pete's I australas to take ...

Three pictures of Stapelia hirsuta. Very nice to the touch.

Sadly, from the blowflies point of view, the eggs hatch and then the maggots die.

Victoria - I loved the pictures you showed of Iochroma cyanea some time ago. Its what made me get some seeds. I also have I. coccinea with red blooms. I have been Googling a bit on Iochromas and many sites say that it doesn't like it too hot - so maybe Pete and LongK are right - too warm in winter...... I never thought I would find myself saying that about any plant overwintered in North Yorkshire. [IMG]

LongK - that T. gregorii is a fantastic colour. I can't wait to see mine in bloom - but the buds that I thought were flower buds are simply foliage buds.

Your E. pole-evansii looks really impressive. I only have a couple of Eucomis - comosa and bicolour, but I have been a bit underwhelmed by them - I didn't realise there were much bigger ones.

              Nigel - that's awesome.

Jenny - Ann Folkard is one of my favorites.

Wylie - what are your giant ones?
