I dont think I was desperately skint 30 yrs ago, or at least I used to get a wage rise every year back then, something I've not seen for 7 yrs.
Are you talking about the Brixton riots?
I think we had riots in city centres a about 3 yrs ago.

If you were skint how did you manage to go on holiday to Spain?

I wouldn't mind if we were accommodating tourists, we are not, we are talking numpties jumping on the backs of Lorries in Calais.

I'm not. A have several immigrant friends, and a few first generation English friends.

Anyway, back to illegal immigrants. When I finally left New Zealand I had been classed as an illegal. I had the third degree and almost missed my flight. I was prepared though and had arrived five hours before in anticipation.
I was also a legal immigrant in Australia and The Netherlands. And as soon as I can retire I'll be emigrating again as I'm sick of our climate!

No we don't. That's one of the things that makes Britain great. We have more freedom than probably any other country, including the freedom to leave if we wish.

But Clueless, don't you think that it's wrong somehow when life has become so unpleasant in your country of birth that you feel compelled to leave? OK....there are countries in the world where your life is in danger if you don't, but surely the UK was supposed to be more civilised than that?

I worked hard, gone without and taken risks with what I have to retire at 50. The crash of 2008 set that back.

          I totally agree.

I feel compelled to leave because I cannot stand the climate! I would have stayed in Oz, but I found that I couldn't stand the racist attitude of the natives.

It is - my life is not in danger.

I agree Longk I have seen this too and seethe at the unfairness of it. But on the positive I have also seen the roots of true integration with our educated young.

My point (poorly put) was when I have visited other countries and I have witnessed far less tolerance than we have here. So while I agree we are far from perfect here, we are more inclusive than many.

Its each to their own. I like it here. I liked it when I lived in Sheffield, in an area where there are a lot of immigrants. So I exercised my freedom to decide where I wanted to be. Had Sheffield been my home town I'd have probably chose to stay, but it wasn't, so without anyone asking any questions or giving me a hard time, I exercised my freedom to move back up home. There are very few immigrants round here. To be honest I regret my decision to move back here. I hate the ignorant gits that live round here. Hardly anyone takes a moment to say hiya. When I lived in Sheffield, I used to hang out in my garden at night drinking beer with the neighbours. If I went out the front I'd be stopped to chat before I got as far as the end of the street. Yet in 4 years of living back here, I've not had a single impromptu beer with a a neighbour. So as I say, its each to their own. Some people might prefer to judge people for having a funny name or the wrong skin tone. Some might judge based on the actual personalities and characters involved. Some might choose to stay put, some might choose to wander off. I think the fact that we can make so many choices so freely is as much proof as anything that the UK is very civilised.

Don't the French feel exactly the same about you as a non-native interloper in their country?

Actually, it was the immigrant settlers! And they are also incredibly sexist. And everything is always somebody elses fault!

Ah. I agree on the whole, but I still see too much racism for my liking. I have been called a Paki lover to my face.
