Tomato seedling question

Hiya,

I have 3 tomato plants that are huge and are bearing (green) fruit and I am very pleased with them. (They are outside, on a sunny patio.)

Yesterday someone brought me 6 tomato plants which are still in a seed tray. They are between 12 and 15 centimetres tall, I'd have thought. Is there any point in planting them out or is it too late to hope for any produce from them now? I don't have a green house, but I do have a conservatory. I don't want to bother with them if there is no hope of success!

 

i'd put them in the conservatory if you have doubts about our unpredictable summers.

 

Late sown tomatoes can do quite well - especially if you can protect them in the autumn. You could grow them outside in larger pots and take them in later in the year (if you can carry the pots!). The cooler outside conditions will slow them down a bit and you will get crops later in the autumn when the earlier plants have finished.

 

Thanks for this, guys. Will give a couple of them a go then, but definitely not all 6! Wouldn't be able to move in the conservatory otherwise!
