I use pay pal for some things, I have it linked to a secondary email account, for the last 2 days I have received alerts purporting to be from pay pal to my main email account, I do have this listed with pay pal as a second point of contact, stating there is a problem, this morning it told me I was temporarily locked out. I have logged on to pay pal, not through the link kindly provided, and there is no problem with the site, I have not received any such alerts to my pay pal primary e mail. So some sort of scam that will want all my details :th scifD36:, as it is a minor account I set up to specifically for pay pal if they get in I think there`s about £13 in there. :heehee:

You can also ring them. I have twice recently, and got through straight away. Very helpful.

There are a lot more than usual of these type of emails going around. They have been saying they come from PayPal, Amazon, most of the banks and building societies, telecom companies (BT are being inundated with reports from customers) and lots of others.

          The standard recommendations still apply.

Never click on a link in any email unless you are expecting it.
          Never reply to the email.
Try to forward it to the 'spoof' or 'abuse' departments of the relevant organisations - or better still, cut and paste the offending email and send it on a separate email. The reason for this second option is that, quite often, the organisation's filters may recognise it as a baddy and just delete it.
Never put any accounts details in a reply to a request.
Never, never, never put a password or pin number into an email.

If you're unsure whether something is genuine, then go into your online account and check to see if everything is OK. If you're still unsure then contact them through the 'help' on the website and ask if they had sent you any request for details.

Don't try and play around with the 'spoof/phishing/spam' email unless you're experienced at messing them around. I, once, persuaded one of these spammers that they had got through to the Fraud Squad' :heehee: and have done that a number of times with unsolicited phone calls.:loll:

            Yes, particularly with passports.

Now there are also problems with paying for the congestion zone. Always make sure you go into the website through Transport for London's website.

Regarding the PayPal emails, the return address even looks genuine, BUT the domain is not paypal.co.uk (or .com) but in fact paypai.com (or co.uk) but they use an upper case "i" so it comes out looking like a "l". That does fool most email programs, but using a pre-email viewer such as MailWasher actually shows the, in this case, spoofed email address.

They won't know that your email account is not the Paypal one, they will just be sending it speculatively to every email address that they have acquired / from wherever - even to people who do not have a Paypal account at all. Similar think with the banks, telling you that your account with Nat West has a problem - only 20%, or whatever, of recipients will actually bank with Nat West, but they don't care. If 1% of those click on the link then ... Job Done

If someone pays you via Paypal, then you (or eBay or whoever) will have given them your Paylpal email address. If they get a virus that can "harvest" all the email addresses they have corresponded with ... that will be enough to get your [real] Paypal email address onto a list that is then sold & traded. If you ever click through a link in a spam email then that will tell them that the address is "real", and it will then be exchanged / traded / sold more :(

When I start getting spam on my eBay or Paypal email addresses I change them (I can have ANYTHING@MyEMailDomain ) so that the TO address on an EMail has to be the current, valid one, for me to take any notice ... and then I am cautious.

If an EMail from eBay / Paypal [I think this applies to both of them??] does not refer to you by your first name then it is not genuine ...

Even with emails which look official, I never click on the links. If paypal/ebay/other have anything to tell you it'll be in the relevant message box when you log in. I always ignore the email link & log in independently to see, if I'm not sure. Usually though there are blinding grammatical or spelling errors in the emails though :D Alliance & Lester? Of course I bank with you...!
