I've just come across this article in my gardening magazine...

"A treatment for Box Blight has just been launched onto the market.Bayer Garden has introduced 'Fungus Fighter Plus and 'Fungus Fighter Concentrate' "

It's said to kill and protect against the disease and gives three weeks protection. It's worth having on standby :blue thumb:

Definitely, these plants are so expensive to buy anything that keeps them healthy is good.

At last.! I had to fell a wonderful old box bush many years ago.. It had been trained into a wonderful shape too, but along came the Box Blight and after a struggle I lost and it had to go.. Such a shame too, so now avoid it although I like it..! Maybe I can consider it again then..!

          Was it a decent-ish size?

I wonder if Yew, Ilex crenata (although I think that may be VERY slow?) or the small leaved Privet (that might drop its leaves in a cold winter as only semi-evergreen) would be good substitutes?

I'm figuring on using Yew for topiary of a reasonable size, just wondered what other folk think?

better buy some quick if you need it, before the EU bans it.

I've got a few box plants around in various part of the garden and alotment and have not come across blight as yet.
Personally I prefer yew for hedges anyway.

The spray advertised was 800ml... £6.50 for the Fungus Fighter Plus , £7.99 for the concentrate...

I do like to see Yew topiary, always looks very smart and clips well...

I've quite a few Box on order and I must admit I do have a fear of the dreaded blight :fingers crossed: it doesn't come to haunt me:rolleyespink:

I'm planning to plant some next Spring, and my plan is to put a French drain under them so they have very sharp drainage. Not sure that is enough, as wet Summer causing high humidity and wet foliage may be more of the cause? but I'm hoping it will help.

Also planning not to trim after Derby Day :)

I've always stuck by the 'Derby Day' rule but this year I actually risked trimming at the beggining of September as well even though it did make me cringe...I'm not risking it again though my nerves won't stand it:rolleyespink:...

Probably an odd question but would Bordeaux mix work on Buxus?
