I have quite a few Begonia's and I have been given varying tips on how to keep them over the winter. It seems to be one of those "I wish I never asked" situations as one bit of advice is very contradictory to another..... HELP!!! :)

Don't cut them back and store them in the light in the house.
Don't water them until they have dried out.
Let them dry out and don't water them at all.
Cut them back as far as you can and store them in a box in the garage in dry soil.
Don't cut them back and store them in a box in the garage without soil.

    Decisions decisions? :)

To be honest in the compost bin they go with me , they are a hardy annual , and don't produce a corm, best grown fresh each year as they will romp away come May.
It just shows you how mild it has been for you to still have them.

Thanks Sruce, quite a few people said that too. It's still very mild and up to 12 deg in the day. Crazy weather.

they will make good compost , some things we all grow are only for a short time.
And look at all the time and messing you have saved .. give you more time on here :dancing:
you could try but I doubt they will come to much and certainly not with all the faffing around you will have to do just not worth saving they have completed what they had to do ...

Other begonia species and I would of posted a raft of information :merryx:

It all depends which varieties you have grown , if the normal trailing begonia they will have a corm this need to be dried off asap and keep it a cool frost free place.

With the newer varieties a good example's
        • "million kisses series"
        • "crackling fire"
        • "oranges and lemons"
        • to name a few
more colours arriving every year in the UK now from America , they need to be grown on late in to the year into November (Greenhouse) for them to produce corms but they flower so well most of the time they dont set any which is annoying

All of the new trailing varieties are taken from cutting in the spring

its a geranium or Pelargonium to give its proper name , this to be kept out of the frost and kept on the dry side , greenhouse okish for now if well protected but in the house if it gets below minus , I keep mine in the greenhouse for now but the cuttings all have plastic bell jars over then with the vents open in the top as it may cause they to go moldy with the damp.

Oh man I really need to sort myself out!!! . Well at least I now know that I can keep them.

So now I look stupid enough I guess it doesn't matter if I ask if it's a decimate no to keep them in a dark area?

Thank you for setting me right,
