OK, sorry, I think I get your point.

So cant you put the valve lower down?
The one in you link looks very expensive bearing in mind its a standard valve, with just a bit of an add on, on the end.

Putting the valve lower down just decreases the volume of the water butt as the valve has to be above the overflow to comply with water regulations.

Yeah that was an OTT example, but my budget is around the £20 mark putting many of these valves out of reach = )

OK, so get someone to convert a "bog" standard arm and valve.
Its only a case of fitting an extra extension onto the standard arm.
Buy two and cannibalise one to get what you want.

On the other point of concern, do you think it would be a problem having the mains turned on constantly? Can a normal hose take that kind of constant pressure? Will these valves take that kind of pressure?

Not sure, but I think there are drip irrigation systems that run off mains pressure.

They are, presumably fed by hose, but they might involve mains pressure reduction before the hose, I'm not sure.

Yes, I think the water pressure is probably controlled before the hose. This will need further investigation.

Maybe somebody with knowledge of this will post.

Thanks for all your helpful posts pete.
