Just having a rant. Don't you just hate the British weather sometimes? I know we get a mix, but this year I decided not to plant runner beans as the wind got them last year. Instead, I bought a nice little portable greenhouse and filled it with over 60 sunflower seedlings, ten cucumber seedlings and numerous lettuce seedlings. Have spent hours potting them on as they outgrow their pots. Came home today to find that the wind decided to play a game of 'see how far we can toss the greenhouse down the garden' game. Hmmmmm r.i.p lol. I managed to salvage a few...they are now living in my lounge...

My sympathy Markymark! Those greenhouses are known notoriously as 'blowaways' here on GC. :) Weigh the base down with bricks or similar. It's a shame you've lost your seedlings though.

That's a shame MM! I sacrifice the bottom shelf on mine to a couple of paving slabs, even then the wind will blow off the cover or break the zip - they aren't the best of things.

Yep.....I'm in Liverpool too and it seems to have been one very windy day after another. I've got a blowaway but the frame is firmly screwed to the fence. Even weighing it down with some heavy slabs didn't work. It hasn't moved since though thanks to the screws!

I have stopped using those plastic shelving/greenhouses.
Have had more than one disaster with them
A few years ago, one with all my Alpines blew over.
Weighed it down, but even then, a couple of weeks later, over it went again.

            Sorry to hear it.

I use paving slabs as well - on each shelf. Then stand the pots on those. If the forecast is windy then I also run string around the blowaway and tie it to a drainpipe.

We get very strong winds off the field by our veggie patch but now that I use my ShineyFrame design I don't get any problems. :blue thumb:

You have all of my sympathy @Markymark i had a small tomato blow away greenhouse several years ago, the wind came blew it to shreds & killed my tomato plants I was so upset :cry3:, that's what prompted me to buy a greenhouse.......every year I have to buy new glass because the flipping wind smashes it in the winter, dam weather!
I hope the seedlings which you have salvaged grow into beautiful plants :dbgrtmb:

I've used those greenhouses for the past 2 seasons but have finally given up this year after another one ended up trashed by the wind, despite being weighed down and anchored. Ended up buying a coldframe instead and so much happier. I know everything is safe now!

Hmmmmm , I agree it is so disappointing.
Does anyone know whether it is abnormally windy this year? And why? It certainly feels like it, although we have moved to Cambs and wonder if this is the norm here.

Seems to be windier than usual, i've normally been fishing for a month or so by this time of year, but I haven't bothered because of the onshore wind
