I think I have that one, Dips, and I think it Bamboo SASA. I got it when visiting a Client about 10 years ago where the site [a Chemical Works] was closing down. I spotted the Bamboo at the entrance to the Works and asked my client what was happening to the plants in the borders. He just shrugged his shoulders and when I asked if I could have the bamboo he nodded. You should have seen his face:hate-shocked: when I got a spade out of the boot of my car and started digging the Bamboo out while I was dressed in a suit and shiny shoes. It took me nearly nearly an hour to dig it out [off came the tie:heehee:] and drag it into the boot. I know it says it's not invasive but the root spread was phenomenal, but I seen too many "non-invasive" Bamboos put into gardens and then the gardener regretting it. I think it's all down to the site and soil, if the Bamboo likes it then watch out. I divided my "prize" Bamboo and it's now sitting in two huge low profile pots. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go back there to dig out some other shrubs that I'd seen:dunno::heehee:

The bamboo may be being kept in check there because its kind of in a wooded area of the garden so a lot of shade and among lots of trees

The latest bamboo has gone behind the holly tree is this pic between two shrubs and a forsythia. It was hard digging a hole to put it in tbh because of all the roots

I guess all plants tho have their downsides and a lot spread. I would def never put a running bamboo anywhere but pots tho and would avoid that one invasive rhododendron at all costs. Poor rhodies have a bad name because of that one.

Bamboos are fine so long as you buy clump forming varieties but be careful about ultimate size, some of them can get monstrously big. There is also the option of buying the Bamboo control system but I think thats still risky and is very expensive, better off paying a little more and uying something a bit safe.
