I know this is really trivial but I'm so cross with myself! I had planted up a fabulous basket with geranium, petunias and trailing lobelia which I hung up yesterday. It was only then that I noticed one of the lobelia in the side was dying! I tried to replace it with another one but it was larger than the original so I think my brute force of trying to wedge it into a hole that was too small has not worked as it is limp and hanging down! I guess I've learnt to leave well alone! Maybe the others will bush out and hide the poorly one!:frown:

Can you not turn the basket around so that the gap is next to a wall or not directly seen?

The replacement will take a few days to perk up but, if you keep it watered and the weather doesn't turn vicious, it'll be fine,

Rosebay - I did think of doing that but whisk ever way I put it, it's visible! I guess I'll just be patient and hope it perks up Jenny! Good luck with the pansies Tam!:)

I know just how you feel - I just tried an upside down tomato planter. Put two plants in and managed to snap one off at the base of the stem! And it had baby toms on it too! Rats!

                  (this is not mine!)

Woohoo! All is well......my basket has recovered and is progressing nicely! Pics to follow! My drama has now moved onto my (was lovely) decking area! We removed a 'springy' board only to find that all the supporting joists are rotten! It now looks horrendous as we are going to have to replace the whole right hand section!!! Grrrrr!!!:wallbanging:

Oh no @Jan H :( I suppose it's better to have found it out now rather than when someone puts a foot through it, but what a nuisance. That's good about the basket though :)

:spinning::spinning::spinning:I give up! The replaced lobelia has not only died but the one next to it is also dead now....I've come to the conclusion that it's rotted! I'll post a pic shortly but the rest of the basket is great....maybe I shouldn't have lined it with a bin liner.....to be honest it doesn't dry out as much as I was expecting. Hopefully the other lobelia will fill out more!:spinning:

Aww no :( What a shame. You've got me worried now because my hanging basket is lined with a (trimmed down) bin liner and I'm heavily watering daily because it all starts to look sad if I skip an evening... though touch wood, it seems to all be ok so far and blooming well with nothing rotted. Eeeek, hope it stays that way! Also hope your other Lobelia rise to the challenge and fill out the gap :)

Just a thought: I use a old spring water bottle (with a couple of holes poked into the neck) to keep my baskets from drying too much. If you are out at work all day (and can remember!) fill one up with water when you get home (with holes in its neck). Stick it in the freezer overnight (upright), then, when you leave for work in the morning, tuck it on top of your hanging basket (upside down). During the day, the water in the bottle will melt and slowly drip through the holes in its neck and into the hanging basket thus keeping it from drying out too much.
