For some reason just lately , we have a few Red Kites. It is quite a big Estate where I live and near the main road. They have been regularly in the area for about a month:yes:

      Brownsea Island today.
A cool and cloudy day, we hoped to see a lot of Terns feeding young but apart from the small islands being surrounded by fencing to stop predation, they were over run by Black Headed Gulls, never seen so many, dozens of Sandwich Terns but only about four Common Terns. Anyway here are some of what as there.

Sandwich Tern and Black (?) Headed Gulls.

The previous ? was because they're heads are usually chocolate brown. In the middle here and I know Gulls are Gulls:rolleyespink: is a Mediterranean Gull, for anyone who is interested it is similar but with a really Black head, bright red bill and legs and no black on the wing tips.

Mediterranean Gull in detail. Not common here but increasing.

Not many Red Squirrels but this one was busy.

Apologies in advance if this has been discussed before ( so many pages )
          Carpenter bee.
          What a creature!
          Absolutely love it!!
          Can I take photo???
No, the blooming thing only appears when I don't have the means too.
Run inside, get gadget, run out, it's buggered off.
What a thing of beauty though, feel honoured to have it in my garden.
I will keep trying to get a pic .

Our guard monk Simon apparently has decided that I am not such a bad guy, as he is collecting his reward in person; the problem being that there are now three of them. We have named one of them Garfunkle and are open to suggestions on the third.

Flying near me, far too near, are swarming ants!!

We had patio work done last year, and a step put in between our 'uge patio doors and the patio. This has obviously blocked the swarming path for some of the local ants nests. Instead of swarming outside, they come up inside, and try to swarm up the walls. There is no ant activity indoors for the rest of the year. I'm afraid I've resorted to the vacuum, as the walls were black... Any ideas or tips? Don't like killing them, but having hundreds of ants swarming in your lounge is no joke.

There are sprays that you can get - not for spraying in the air. Spray around the edges of the door, walls, floor and the same outside around the step and doorframe. The spray is a type of systemic chemical and doesn't wash away easily. So it's active for quite a period. It's clear and doesn't leave any marks. In this country there are things such as this:-
