Thank you for the response I feel I'm a bit late this year so I want to be fully prepared to hit the ground running and attract the bees much earlier next year.
I'd love one day for them to settle in the garden somewhere:fingers crossed:

For this year you could just plant some lavender, the bees love it :dbgrtmb:, I popped into a garden centre on Monday to buy some more lavender but it was covered in bees! I didn't have the heart to take it away from them!.

                hello and welcome :)

Not too late, there are plenty of bee friendly plants you can sow now, Scabious for starters.

Great response guys I have put some lavender in and it does seem very popular.
Any suggestions for attracting the bees early in the season for next year?

Sweet Williams - you can sow the seed now or buy them as plants later in the season.

Hi and welcome! I'm designing my front garden to be wildlife friendly at the moment (hopefully the back garden will be too, but I'm tackling the front garden first). I found this site helpful which suggests that you should aim for at least two bee-friendly plants in flower throughout the growing season to provide bees with food at the different stages of their yearly cycle (establishing nests, preparing for hibernation etc). Also single flowers that are really open in their petals are great because the bees can access the pollen easily, whereas fancy flowers with lots of crowded petals make access very hard for them. Good luck with your plans :)

Hopefully I can get it to grow, I'm starting to realise there's a lot more to it than poping random plants in the ground .

                            Hi....welcome to GC. :sign0016:

I've got a bee garden with other forms of wildlife most welcome. If you want some plants that are attractive to bees early in the season try some spring flowering bulbs. The most popular in my garden are crocus "jeanne d'arc" and muscari latifolium. You can plant these in autumn ready for the spring. :spinning:

Thank you for the suggestion Fern4 those jeanne d'arc do look nice. I do like the idea of filling the front garden full of different bulbs ready to erupt in spring.
