Is the plant in growth? If not, bin it, as it sounds like it's gone rotten.

Blackberry ripple! Not much ripple in the first flower but I love it!! First big Dahlia to flower.

My Dahlias are being chomped massively though, I presume by Earwigs? Holes, chomped leaves. No sign of caterpillars or slugs so that's my best guess? I'll start the pots on sticks regime on Saturday.

I could be wrong, but I think earwigs only attack the flower?

Ah right. Perhaps it is just slugs. I'll have a proper look again on Saturday.

              My Kenora Sunset now...

              image.jpg

There is though some concern. I notice that one or two of the plants are looking a bit 'whippy'. Any thoughts?

                Hi Freddy,
Some if my bigger ones are getting like that. I'm not expert on Dahlias, but could it be that this type are bred this way to provide cut flowers ?

PS.... What's that growing under them ?

I've got a few different Dahlias currently planted and i've just recently taken some cuttings to try and propagate some of my own :)

                    Hiya Anthony.
Hmm, it's a thought, but my gut feeling is that something isn't right. The leaves at the top are distorted. No pests that I can see. I guess I'll just have to wait to see how it pans out.

                    Nemesia :)

Wow! I love them! This is what I love about Dahlias, the flowers are always so immaculate.

Freddy, perhaps because they're quite close, they're creating shade on one another and causing them to compete?

My Dahlias all have something nibbling little red marks into the shoots which is distorting them, but they're growing so strongly they're outcompeting whatever it is.

Possibly, but I don't think so. If they were looking 'drawn', then I'd agree, but these look 'whippy'.
