Solved Trees?

    hi I have two trees one at either side of the gate, I think they need trimming into circle shape. Could anyone tell me what they are and when I should shape them?

    Looks like a laural but im not sure

      Thank you for your reply. I have a few laural and I didn't think it was, it as a long thin trunk :what:

        Maybe it is, I really have no idea, I'm a compleat beginner! It's just the long trunk that is puzzling!

        I have no idea but im going to guess and say it may not be that old hence the trunk isnt that thick but they look like they have been trained as standards so that may have something to do with it

          Yeh they do my mum just got rid of one because she got fed up of the lawn being covered in black berries every year lol

              Agree with others.
              Prunus laurocerasus, common name Cherry Laurel.
              Grown as a standard ( ie a straight bare trunk without any twigs or branches coming from it..until the top which has the leaves).

              Can be trimmed to geometric shape, as you like.

                Thank you for the links! I have trimmed back other trees that were blocking them so I can see them better, next I will shape them as its a shame they have been left!
