Went to scan a drawing today the way i always do with HP Photosmart studio and i keep getting this error message "the scan can not be performed because another programme has control ver the hp imaging device" I have no idea what this other programme is or could be.

Its never happened before. Im also getting the same message when i try to import the scan in photoshop as both programmes open HP Scan to scan.

I have done what it said and closed all programmes, restarted the programmes and restarted the comp. i just keep getting the same message

An update was done the other day and Im pretty sure this has messed things up but I cant seem to figure out how to correct it.

I can still scan if i go into system preferences and to the printer and to scan and can scan from there but I would prefer to use the Photosmart studio as its easier and more user friendly better for seeing the scans and then saving them. The printer option way just saves it every time you scan.

The printer scanner i have is Hp deskjet F45780 and I'm on a mac using Max OS x 10.6.8

any help and ideas would be greatly appreciated please. everything seems to be going wrong right now (the list is endless) and my brain is struggling to process it all and i need this to do work. I just dont need the stress of this on top of everything else i really just need it to work like it use to :cry3:

I know nothing about this sort of thing but when you turned your computer off did you unplug it from the wall as well. This sometimes helps reset things.

nope i might try that now as the new scan is huge for some strange reason my drawing is only on an a4 piece of paper yet the scan is coming up big enough to fill a king size duvet so hmmm

So today it is doing the same thing as yesterday :-(

Right now im going to remove the printer and add it again but i cant do this every single time i need to scan something. I cant afford the extra energy it takes from me

so if anyone has any idea why this might be happening and how to fix it for the long term that would be great

            thank you :-)

Hi Dips, when you are removing the printer I'm assuming you are removing its program and re-installing?

Nope just removing it from the printer section so there are no printers listed and then re adding it. It then works

Do you still have the disc for re-installation. My view would be to remove the program completely and then do a complete new re-install. If you don't have the disc most printers can be found on line and downloaded from there.

It must be very frustrating .... the only reason I mention this is that it happened to me and the printer on a number of occasions nearly got thrown out of the window and jumped on from shear frustration :wallbanging:

I would give this a go and see what happens :)

Search it on line, it will probably tell you there how to uninstall a program. If you have done any up-dates recently this can cause the problem.

I would guess when you have done this everything will go back to the norm.

              Keep me posted :)

@Dips - I am just about to toddle off to bed, but will come back to you tomorrow on this. In the meantime, it is worth downloading the HP software from their support site (just Google the model number and put the word 'drivers' or 'download' after it.

Scanners are temperamental things, and I suspect that your recent update has changed one of the drivers - - on a Windows PC, it would be the TWAIN file (Thing Without An Interface Number - and no, I am not kidding!)

Anyway, remove the device as you have done before, but rather than plugging it back in and letting it self install, leave it unplugged and then install the software first; once that is complete, then plug the printer/scanner back in - - a lot of scanners are really fussy about having the software installed first, and won't work right (or at all) if it is done the other way round.

Let me know how you get on, and we can go from there.
