Very naïve, and it just tells me that your mind is not flexible enough to imagine the unintended consequences that may result from it

It reminds me of the same responses from politicians but particularly from the air-headed young female editor of Smash Hits magazine who appeared on BBC Question Time about 10 years ago and her lackadaisical view on personal data in relation to the question of what could be stored on an ID card.

Cue phone hacking scandal. I wonder how they all feel about it now.

lykewakewalker, please post in this thread your real name, date of birth, place of birth, address, phone number, NI number, mother's maiden name.

Remember, if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear.

Note: my username and location details are closer to who and where I am than yours so you can't accuse me of hiding.

I am with misterQ on this. I have got nothing to hide, but I would have if I were to accidentally leave my ID card at home. It would be an offence to wander the streets without it.

I spose this bit also doesnt bother me as i walk around with all this info on me anyway including my NI card. i have all my tick sheet with all my sypmtoms listed and allergies, my ME card with doctors details on and who to contact and my allergies again, my medical ID on my phone again with contact details all my illnesses and allergies, my driving licence, credit cards etc, business cards etc etc etc etc

For me having it all in one place would be beneficial i walk around with all this info anyway all the time because i have to if i collapse or something happens to me.

But then i wonder if maybe that might be the difference between say men and women because generally women always have a bag with them with stuff in that we take everywhere anyway. Obviously not all of us but its prob more common than men. Also there might be a difference between those who are well and those who are sick. I have to carry this info around but a well person would never even think of it.

Just cut to the chase and let the government either tatoo a barcode on you or if preferred you could get chipped at the vet like your dog will have to be by April next year.

I dont know if youll be fined or the dog will be shot on the spot if you fail to abide by this new law.?

Shot on the spot? Slightly over dramatic

What will happen is the person will have 21 days to microchip and register the pet or update their details if they are out of date.

If that is not done in 21 days then there is a £500 fine

My mind obviously is not as flexible as yours, how you can jump from a debate on ID cards to the phone hacking scandal beggars belief.
As for unintended consequences, I prefer to believe that ID cards will be a tool to use against the terrorism that surrounds us now, something to help protect us not something designed to spy on us. With a suspicious mind like yours I am guessing that your initials are GH.

£500 fine for not chipping your dog whilst you only get fined £80 for being drunk, fighting in the street and getting arrested for it. Kind of says it all doesnt it about the state of this country.

              &

I dont see how a terrorist with an id card on him will be any less dangerous just as hes about to detonate a bomb or spray a crowd in bullets ?

Its a £500 fine after 21 days if you havnt done it so there is actually no reason for anyone to have to pay that amount. You can get ur pet microchipped from a fiver. I presume the excessive fine it just to make sure people get it done. It is a lot but actually they are giving you 21 days to sort it out and if you do then there is no fine which is fair. If there was a £500 on the spot fine that you had to pay immediately then i would certainly question the amount as ridiculious but as it currently stands there is no reason why anyone would need to pay that. They have 21 days and it costs a fiver/tenner. Some places do it for free on free microchipoing events too.

I would like to see higher fines for drinking and fightering etc tho

Agreed, ID cards do not work, except for triggering bureaucratic processes in organisations providing a service as they take it seriously. But fake ID cards can be
easily obtained, if so wanted, which is one of the reasons there isn't one in the USA. The only national photo identity documents in the USA are the Passport and Passport Card. Most people seem to use the state issued drivers licence as ID cards. For me, a compulsory National ID Card is a sign of a Big Brother, totalitarian society and another loss of a personal freedom and that would get the approval of the Terrorist as that is what they want.:dunno::coffee:

It's not like they're asking to tattoo a bar code on your forehead

Well, that might work better than an ID card, Lori:dunno: ID cards are not a viable, creditable of proving your identity.......as has been proved in the USA. There's no national ID card in Canada as far as I know. The primary ID is the drivers licence although because of the number of non drivers the Provinces are starting to produce photo ID cards.......but they can be faked easily like most present ID cards:dunno::snork:

Why do people keep going on about Drivers Licences and Passports ?

Why not look at it from the other side of the fence at people who have neither ?

Armandii, how do you suggest I prove who I am ?
