Yes, they did grow quite a bit, but did not bloom.The one further down I "experimented" with and cut down almost to the ground and it came back...
Here is the only pic i can find, at the moment, from this spring..All the green is new weak growth[IMG]
So for the crepe Myrtles if I cut out the dead wood, and cut about 1/3 off the new stems will they still look alright and not have that "stumpy"...

The crepe Myrtles vary in height..mostly about 5' tall, with 1 or 2 being upwards of 12'P.s. sorry about the cross forum posting
There may be more "stuff" intertwined. .I'll get out there again when I have more light and pull it out..best bet is to cut down to 12" or so?
If it's not a rose, it missed a good chance as the blooms look like a rose to me
