OK, taking a chance and posting something a bit topical. 3 schoolgirls have left UK and gone to Syria to join ISIS so now we are looking for them, WHY? why are we bothering? if they want to go then let them go who cares?? just make sure that they don't come back, this should be a one way ticket, no returning. They could possibly die out there, ISIS is under attack, if that is what they want so be it.

I didn't think they could get past Passport Control unaccompanied. Who slipped a brown envelope to ensure no one was looking their way?
And the mother of one of them is criticising the Authorities for inadequate surveillance of her daughter's internet activity,

I agree with you both - somebody on Twitter was even blaming the police! They should NEVER have been allowed through passport control (? On a school day) I am sad because they are young and therefore not able to make a proper informed decision as no life experience, but as Val said, one way ticket.

Methinks the mother should look closer to home - internet usage monitoring isn't rocket science and is even free

I do feel for the families after seeing them on tv yesterday pleading for the girls to return. However, I don't think the police are to blame nor the border control. The girls are at a very impressionable age and no doubt have romantic notions in their heads about how it's all going to turn out, but I guarantee within six months they'll be crying to come home.

Good morning these comments are only my personal thoughts and not intended to cause offence to anyone:smile:

Whenever I read or hear of an incident like this,I try and visualise that they were my daughter's ,right or wrong ,I just want them to return unharmed in to the arms of their parents and and families ,I'm not looking for someone to blame just that everyone concerned can prevent this happening to obviously a loving family in the future:smile:

Got to disagree with you Val, these are young vulnerable children and we should do all we can to help them.

                    Their families, friends?
On a broader view ... everyone should care. Think about the longer term view. Without new recruits (and that especially includes the notion of new generation/s ;) ) the whole IS ideal could be short lived. By grooming young girls, marrying them and having children with them, they can be sure their cause will not die quickly.
                    Quite.

There is something of a hoo-ha brewing up over the fact that Twitter failed to delete the propaganda messages from ISIS.

White children from good stable homes go off the rails and feel isolated too but their "way out" (or act of rebellion) tends to be drugs or stealing. If you are from a minority and have to deal with racism too then it has the potential to reach another level nowadays. I've seen it first hand (I've told the story of my Muslim friends son going off the rails before) and we proved racism based on his name alone when he was looking for work.
Now having said all that we all know the difference between right and wrong so if they do come back having joined up with ISIS there has to be some form of punishment (not twelve years like in the recent case of a returnee who had realised that it was not the holy war they lead them to believe it is) but if they are found before then ongoing help of some kind is what is required.

The reality of it it for females is even more horrific - they get out there and marry "their man" but then find that they are there for one thing. They are frequently expected to take care of the sexual urges of any man and if they refuse they will be raped. If they are not from a western nation they may also be murdered.

There is no easy answer to this I'm afraid to say.

I think in this case as the girls are minors everything that can be done, should be done. If that means the police looking for them abroad, then so be it. However the muslim community now must see they will have to do more to protect their own children, like locking passports away, using internet monitoring to check what their kids are looking at on the web, etc. It's as clear as day that some very dangerous and influential predators are praying on the most vulnerable members of their families and they have to do their bit too, and not rely on Twitter to parent or border control to notice a child is using her sister's passport.

Come to think of it, this approach is probably wise for non muslims too, but for different reasons.
