This has been growing in our garden and was originally sold, way more than 30 years ago, with a label saying Portuguese Laurel - which it almost definitely isn't.

It certainly looks more like a Photinia but doesn't seem to follow the normal pattern for them - as we know it. Someone's App has said it's Taiwanese Photinia but pictures I can find on the net don't seem to quite match.

    Any ideas? :)

All through the main growing season the leaves are green but after flowering they very quickly become green, red and white. The leaves also seem smaller than the other Photinias we know.

Some of these photos aren't as sharp as I would like but it keeps pouring with rain in between sunny spells.

This seems to be its ultimate height - about 10ft

        Thanks @Silver surfer :blue thumb:

The main puzzling thing is the appearance of the new white leaves throughout the year.

Rats, beat me to it. Knew it when I saw the pictures but for the life of me could not get the name. Taken all this time for it to appear. Typical.
Have a feeling that one of its common names is Mountain Laurel, hence the mix up.

To me Mountain laurel is Kalmia latifolia.

Thanks to this thread, I can now (once again) put a label back on my photinia davidiana 'palette'.
The label I had, had the picture perfectly preserved but all the writing was gone.
Strange thing, my shrub often has pure white leaves ageing to red/green/white.

I think Mountain laurel has been applied to a few different shrubs over the years. Leucothoe axillaris is another one.

              Quite possible :noidea:

Whatever it is, we're very happy with our multi coloured version :)

Out walking this morning I came across a small, young Photinia davidiana Palette.
It shows the white new leaves, the variegated leaves...and red leaves.
I think temp/position will affect colour of the leaves.
              Pics below
