I've just had a gentle walk around the garden in the dark and the first thing I heard while a good 30 yards from the pond was the sound of the Frogs singing/croaking away. I've never heard them sounding off in a December before........very strange!!!:snork:

I heard one the other night, thought it was strange.
It has been unusually mild this run up to winter.

I like to hear them croaking away in the dark, gives it a exotic, jungle feel despite the temperature!!:hapydancsmil::heehee:

Yes, mine are still wandering on the top of the pond but I'm not feeding them although I'm tempted to drop just a few pellets on the surface:snork:

I've seen one of my fish a few times recently, but worryingly it looks like the same fish every time. Either the rest are hibernating or whatever they do, or have been pinched by other wildlife or something else.

Have you seen a heron hanging about? Hopefully the rest of the fish are near the bottom of the pond keeping warm. :)

I've just seen 4 of them at once. I think I only had 6 anyway (after some early unfortunate losses). The oxygenating pond weed I put in when I first built the pond seems to have gone wild, so the fish have plenty of places to hide. I sometimes see them hiding under the lilly pads too. They're not that clever so they think they're hiding because their heads are hidden but sometimes they don't swim far enough under so you can still see their tails.

Every time I wander down to the pond I see my fish loitering around near the surface and I'm wondering if it's worth dropping a few pellets to see if they'll take them.....might be worth a try. I did say last year was a very strange year for all sorts of reasons, lateness of the plants to grow on, the insects and birds behaviour, and of course the weather. Well, I'm starting to wonder about this year as a lot of herbaceous plants that normally vanish under the soil didn't do so over the Winter and stayed in leaf and now there are a lot appearing that don't normally appear until another 3 weeks. This mild wet Winter seems to have made things slightly abnormal again and I'm just wondering what insects and pests made it through the "dark" months without Natures normal culling effects.................lots of Green/Black fly, Slugs and Snails????:dunno::sofa:
