A work related question

A question for you computer buffs. What is a QA/SV Specialist please.

 

I've been in the industry for more than 20 years and I've never heard of that one. I suspect it's one of the almost infinite arbitrary meaningless titles that get spawned at a rate of about 1000 per day to make someone sound like they know what they're on about, but I could be wrong.

 

Just a guess. Quality Assurance/Software Verification specialist? Someone whose job it is to let Windows Updates run and then sees if all the apps used by the organisation still work afterwards.

 

I won't pass this on to my relative then! He does know his job and a fair bit about other aspects of computing.

@Sheal, your relative shouldn't be upset by my analysis. It's a well established running joke in the IT industry that job titles are often ridiculous creations of a faceless bureaucratic HR department.

Over the course of my career, where I've always done pretty much the same job, I've been, among other things, an analyst/programmer, a programmer/analyst, a developer, a software engineer, a software architect, a chief programmer, a lead programmer, a technical lead, a lead developer, a senior developer,a senior programmer, a senior analyst, a software department manager and most recently, a 'data scientist'. On my LinkedIn profile, I had "IT specialist" for a while and when nobody questioned what that meant but still tried to get me to apply for other jobs, I changed it to "IT tea boy and general dogs body", and still recruiting agents contacted me about programming jobs they were recruiting for.

 

I recognise a lot of those titles Clueless. I think you and my relative probably work in a similar area.

 

As soon as I'm next in front of an actual computer (LinkedIn simply doesn't work on mobile), I'll update my profile to be exactly that.
