Hey everyone. It's good to be here, I decided to join an active forum as I am a member of some Facebook gardening groups and although there is lots of good advice I find the algorithm hides a lot of posts. So I want to join in on the wealth of information available here on these forums which seem pretty busy.

I am just starting my raised bed journey last month and first attempt at growing my own food with the aim of becoming self sufficient with veg and herbs. I am from Belfast in NI. Zone 9a I believe. The bed is 10ft x 4ft. Using the square foot gardening method basically.

I have a plastic greenhouse which I have been growing on seedlings from my first batch of sowing on 28th April. And since then sowed another two times with plenty of variety. I also have been using Charles Dowdings calendar for sowing times and adjusting slightly here and there based on the climate here which has been pretty steady at mostly 10 degrees at night or slightly above.

I got some swiss chard into my bed today along with 2 greyhound cabbage and 1 red russian kale. I also have some container growing going with peppers, cucumbers and green beans on the go with grow bags for carrots and small grow bags for spinach to keep them in shade in high heat.

In the greenhouse at night, Calabrese is looking ready for transplanting. I have beets, white onions, spring onions, more chard, lettuce, cauliflower waiting to go into the bed soon also.

I look forward to getting advice and joining in myself also. Happy gardening folks.
