Visited Pegwell Bay this morning, once a busy international port...

The footbridge is all that's left of the building.

Interesting @Zigs . I went on this service in 1978, I think it was. We even took the car! I think there was space for about 30 cars. It was quick and the time was advertised as only 22 minutes to Calais. We did it in the summer and the weather was fine. There were many days when the service couldn’t operate due to rough seas. Here is more info in the following link. The service ended in 82.

We used the cross channel hovercraft in the mid 70's . We were on our way to Spain by coach. The hovercraft was big enough to take a coach and whipped us across in just over twenty minutes. The ride was like driving down a cobbled street at 50 miles an hour , spray everywhere so couldn't see a thing .
Not sure if there are any commercial hovercraft running these days ?

That’s true about the spray and not being able to see much and bumpy too.

Also they tried to make the seats posh, like plane seating. They wanted you to think you were travelling by futuristic means with stewardess service even though it was only 22 minutes.

It is Fennel, there's new growth at the base of the old plants already :)

I think it looks better now plus it’s really good habitat for migrating birds......so important on the Kent coast.

We're going back in the spring to identify all the plants there, lots of interesting stuff :)
