Hi guys. A dear old lady neighbour has just given me some seeds of the above. She says they can be planted directly into flower beds. I on the other hand think they need to be propagated first. Who is right?

Spruce.................I am now more confused than ever! If you think I can sow them directly into my beds, how and when should I do this?

Hi OakdaleDave, as Spruce says - you are both right. You can do either.

However, I tend to go by what Christopher Lloyd said. He said that for many years he used to sow seeds directly in situ, then later in life he decided it was better to sow them in pots first.

      :D:D
      In bold as well.:cry3:

Anyway now until late summer in a tray or pots its up to you sow thinly and cover very slightly need 50 to 60 warmth so a airing cuborad would be good but check every day as soon as you see them sprouting take out , green house or window sill would be ideal but protect from strong sun . GROW THEM ON THEN POT ON INDIVIDUALY . Dont rush to transplant them let the roots grow a bit.

If growing out side wait until late April so the soil is warm along the edge of a veg plot would be good or the front of your border sprinkle on and again just lightly cover with soil. Maybe better to water the soil first if dry rather than after as it may wash the seed out

      I hope this is useful

      Simples :dbgrtmb:

Spruce sorry I had to do gardening and have lunch:D:D

The trouble with sowing seeds direct into the flowerbed, is that if you're anything like me, you forget you've done it, then rip them all out as you do your weeding.
