Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum and also to gardening full stop. Just bought a acorn seedling (if that's what it is called). It has grown about 30 cms.

What do i do with it now?
Does it need special type of food?

Can i put it in a pot until its bigger?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

What you have there is the potential for a massive tree in years to come...assuming thats what you want and you have the land for it...then each time you see roots coming out the bottom of the pot tap the plant out and if it has plenty of roots curled around then repot it in a bigger one

Alternatively, what i do is tap it out each year...cut off about a third of its roots...keep the top trimmed down to a nice small size and put it back in the same size pot among my bonsai's [IMG]

I have a friend who has made a Bonsai from one (still in the early stages still though!).

Do you remember the £1,000,000 question about 2 years ago on Who wants to be a millionaire about the Oak tree ?

    Nathan.

I should wait until its growing in spring, then nip the top out at the height you want and it will throw branches out from there
