    Hello,
does anyone out there have any advice on how to cover a chainlink fence in climbing plants or vines . The main problem is that the fence is on top of a 10foot wall and therefore hard to access (I was wondering about attaching baskets to the top of the wall and growing the plants from there ?). The second problem is that I am a complete novice when it comes to gardening and have been scouring the web for tips/ideas and I'm probably more confused now than when I started.
    Any help much appreciated.

    Welcome to Gardeners Corner sos.

You'd have to consider watering regular if you had baskets.

Virginia Creeper would cover the wall and the fence, they cover entire houses.

    Hi

Talk about high fences make good neighbours:heehee::heehee:

I think this is were Rusian vine would be needed , but I like Virginia creeper as well , if you were prepared to get up a ladder you could train wisteria and other climeing plants as well as they started to grow , Rambling rector is a good rose to plant .
How long is the wall and is north south etc facibg
You would have to prepare the planting hole realy well , if you want it to get to those dizzy heights , wrong time of year to expect any growth but plenty of time to prepare for next year ready for the off.

Any chance of a photo or two we like photos

there's loads that can be planted .... and all depends on the aspect of the wall (sun or shade)... so tell us which way the wall faces (south or north facing etc)

I'd look at an evergreen creeper as you will have interest throughout the year ... depending on the length of the wall, you could combine an evergreen with a deciduous that produces flowers

Good evening sos3 and welcome to the site.:dbgrtmb: I would suggest Clematis Montana varieties. Forget Russian Vine, it will take over the garden.:D:D:dbgrtmb:

I agree with Dai on both counts. My neighbour got complaints from her neighbour when the Russian Vine started to appear in the middle of his lawn - about 10yds from her fence.

Also Honeysuckle might be a good contender.
Both Honeysuckle and Montana will give height and spread. Plus they are quick growers.
