    Hi,

Noticed over the last few still , overcast but warm days how motionless it was when the auto vents were not open.

Remember seeing some tv a long time ago about how it helps the young plants develop better if there was good air movement.

Wondered if anyone had tried using a fan , such as the oscillating type, to move the air around the greenhouse and found if it made any real difference ?

I use one over winter in my greenhouse, before that my plants used to suffer with grey mould/Botrytis. It is definitely worth doing especially at this time of year when the greenhouse is bulging with plants. It's also good in late summer for tomatoes etc to stop diseases finishing them off.

Thanks for the reply, have just been experimenting with two fans in the 6x8 lean to.

A 9" standard desktop oscilating fan and a 12" fan as in the pic below which rotate its louvered front rather than moving the whole head. ( cost just a fiver in a sale a year or so ago)

The 12" much better as its able to direct its flow both vertically and horizontally, though uses a bit more current.

Have a current meter and both fans use less than 1Kw per day so less than £1 per week is run continuously , do you run yours on a day / night timer or lots of on/off periods ?

I use a fan in my greenhouse (cactus collection) over the summer.

I use fans whenever there are plants in the greenhouses. Spring summer and fall. You'll see three different kinds there - an overhead, the one on the left of the shelf is a turbine fan and the one on the right is a "personal" fan. They all run off dc power. The overhead fan is to move the heat off the ceiling, the others are to keep it gently moving around inside.

Seem like the fans are worthhile then...

Looks like your auto vent opener is a real head / eye banger like I used to do all the time in my old apex gh, glad I moved to a lean to where the vents are much higher up and out of the way :)

The vent looks like it's low because the bottom is disconnected. I do that in the winter - see the snow?:heehee: - because I try to keep as much daytime heat in to assist the heater. You can see by how much the vent opener is expanded, how warm it is in there

Please explain your comment. Are you saying my greenhouse doesn't look good? If you have a better solution to show us that would be great :)

I run mine 365days/24hr with 15mins on/off periods - since using a fan in this way I've had much fewer problems with moulds and bugs.
