Which size of allotment plot would you want to rent?

  1. Full plot - 250 sq metres

    62.5%
  2. Half plot - 125 sq metres

    37.5%

If you where thinking of taking on an allotment plot, which size would you want to rent?

The standard allotment plot size is 250 sq metres or roughly the size of a doubles Tennis court, would you want a plot that size or just half of that?

Bear in mind you would probably want to have a shed and/or greenhouse/polytunnel and maybe a compost heap too.

So which size would you want, full or half plot?

I could of posted this poll in the allotments section of the site, but would most probably have got the opinion of existing plot holders, the results here are important for me.

Even if you do not intend to ever rent an allotment plot, I would value your taking part in the poll to assess public feeling to the overall size of allotment plots in this modern age, so please vote, leave a few words etc..

      Many thanks!

      Steve...:)

Hi @Steve R I don't grow things but if I was able to it would only be half plot...just needing a shed and ground mainly for veg :)

Neither would suffice as we currentley rent approx. 0.6 of an acre/ 2,500 m2 (Yes, that's the equivalent of 10 full size plots).

No, only certain fruit and veg for all too short seasons, but it allows me to indulge in my hobby.

I've selected a full plot as that is the size I would have if I wasn't old and doddery :snorky:

I feel that if you were a fairly serious grower of fruit and veg (and possibly a few flowers - to attract the pollinators, of course) then you would need that size. A greenhouse, a shed and the paths would take up a reasonable amount.

I'm not likely to ever take on an allotment, but if I were to then I would go for the full size, thus allowing for greenhouse, shed, paths, compost area and even the option of a poly tunnel....not forgetting the important role of a seating area!
