alpines

    hi can some one please give me advice on growing alpines i am just erecting green house as we speak and have been told these plants have to live in greenhouse is this true and if so do they have to have the highest heat

    the gardening program on Friday showed an alpine house, basically they need a roof to prevent drips and lots of ventilation, they like clay pots, the soil should be very gritty, and the pots sunk in gravel.... they don t need heat really, if you think about where they are found naturally , that will give you a clue,
    i think most will live outside, but the alpine house and specialist treatment is for enthusiasts who want to have a show of flowering plants,

    hi lady gardener anne here thankyou for replying to me on the subject of alpines iwould love to try my hand at this i am shortly to have 2 greenhouses in the garden so i will dedicate the smaller one to the alpines wish me luck i think i will need it
