I'm getting carried away already :(

I wonder if I can generate a meaningful topic on "what seeds are we buying" but a) my list is already embarrassing! and b) its all a bit personally subjective, isn't it?

I am SURE that there are more seed companies on the internet than last year ...
... either that or I have discovered a terrifying new technique :( it goes like this:

You find something you like, which is unusual. So you stick that in Google to see what the germinating/growing requirements are, and if anyone sells it cheaper ... and then you find 10 new seed companies which also see it, but they also sell a bunch of other interesting & unusual things, so you browse their sites and add them to your list of "preferred suppliers" and "must have varieties"

    Rinse and Repeat!!

Children: DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME !!

    :heehee:

Google has a way of spending our money for us and then just as we think that's it, no more, the plant/seed catalogues start dropping through the letter box. A no win situation I think! :)

You are definitely not alone Kristen - I have had my first delivery through already, and will no doubt accrue plenty more as the winter goes on, and that is in addition to the seeds sent from Jenny and Loli too :)

At least there is one upside to our addiction - it might be expensive, but it gets us out of the house, gives us fresh tasty produce for at least half the year, and it is legal :)

I *think* its a good price?? anyways, worth looking for Dahlias on:
              http://www.national-dahlia-collection.co.uk/en/
they start from about £2 each (rooted cuttings, delivered next spring)

So: did I need to buy 40 packets of seed from Australia? I persuaded myself that the fact that they were selling packets of 20 seeds of Clitoria ternatea
              [IMG]
for £1.77, rather than 10 seeds from Jungle for £2.87 ... regardless of the fact that it probably took me an hour's web browsing to discover that ...

.. and how did I then persuade myself that I should start a collection of Arisaema
              [IMG]
... and buy every variety that is known to man in Australasia? :heehee:

I'm busy trawling Plant World Seeds site. My short list is so far 70 packets :(

I'm amazed that I only have one Bomarea (I seem to have picked B. salsilla and I'm not even sure its the prettiest ...)

and I have every other variety of Arisaema that isn't available in the Southern Hemisphere ... just in case I find I like one more than another I suppose ...

Luckily I was persuaded that Trillium needed really fresh seed, so I've removed nearly 10 varieties of them from the basket

There then is Nicotiana sylvestris and N. langsdorfii - surely I can save my own seed, successfully and without cross hybridisation, of those? I do love them though, and would be heartbroken if my seed failed
              [IMG]
              Nicotiana sylvestris

              Nicotiana langsdorfii

I suppose I could buy a packet, but sow mine and keep the bought seed for another year.

And then there is eCrater's site. Loads of lovely varieties of Salvia. This one is West Texas:

              and Fuchsia cinerea
              [IMG]

              and Iochroma grandiflora
              [IMG]

              isn't that gorgeous?

or might Iochroma cyaneum 'Royal Blue' be better?

solution = buy both and decide when they are both in flower :heehee:

www.secretseeds.com domain name has expired :hate-shocked:Anyone know their whereabouts? Dave's Garden is asking for anyone who knows, and their Facebook page has not been updated since January :( Tragic :(

They have your best interests at heart!

                    Ditto"

Yes, but therein lies the fun - my interest may be different to yours on the whole but at some point they cross and a new plant is on our radar. All we have to do then is get it!!!

I'm being sensible and concentrating on Southern hemisphere winter growers at the moment such as Lachenalia and Ferraria. Here's my latest purchase - Ferraria foliosa seed from SA................

This image was linked from this set of photos which demonstrates what a variable species it is. Any of them is fine by me as it is particularly a floriforous species.

                      No! No!! NO!!!!! :nonofinger:

A link is not an enforcement officer ... it does not "force" you to do anything!

(Have you considered Kristen may be a super sleuth Marketer, planting subliminal messages, for others to feel induced to purchasing stuff they *think* they cannot live without? Watch him ;) - Disclaimer: other, seemingly, super sleuth Marketer's are available  )

                      :heehee:

FC, you are a Scot ... be canny ;)

Of course Kristen may also be a rather decent bloke: only you can decide the level of persuasion and duress the post put you under :heehee:

                          @Kristen

I've got 3 Yucca "something" which I was given (dead looking!) earlier this year. They seem to have thrived, despite any neglect from me :heehee: I'll take a pic tomorrow: have no idea which type they are, but, if they are on your wish list (and survive my winter ignorance) there will be one with your name on it at Shineyland next May, if you want it?

Thanks M, that's very kind. Can't believe we don't have any Yucca's in the garden as yet ...
