I remember this happened once before.

When I look in on GC I first of all click on 'User CP' to bring up all the threads that I am subscribed to that have had replies since I last looked at them. This has worked well for quite a long time.

What is happening now is that if I didn't look at some of those threads last time I was on here, and there haven't been any new threads since I last clicked on 'User CP', those unread threads are no longer shown.

This happened a year or so ago when there had been some upgrade of the system. Is there anything that can be done about it.

A similar thing happens if I use 'New Posts'. Only the threads that have been posted since my last visit are shown in bold. Threads I had not looked at on my last visit are then not in bold and say 'these have not been updated since your last visit'.

In more recent times everything I had not looked at would always come up in bold.

    Help please :)

I think its always been as you describe it - if you don't "read everything" in a session, then all the "what was new at the time" meta-data is lost if you delay an hour or so and then look at the site again.

I use other Forums software that remember all threads and what I have read / not read, which is very nice :thumb:

If it is any help here's my reading-strategy for vBulletin forums:

Click on "New" and then right-click on "Page-2" and choose "Open in new tab". From that repeat for "Page-3" and so on until all Index Pages are open in new tabs.

If I walk away from my computer those N-pages will still be open in umpteen-TABs for review (however, anything newer than the last action I performed will be "lost" to the ether :( )

When ready (usually immediately) I right-click on any thread I am interested in and use "open in new TAB". I tend to do this for all interesting topics on that index page - so they are all loading in separate TABs and then by the time I've done them all the earlier ones will be loaded and ready for reading.

Read each TAB and close it after reading (or replying)

Close Index page-N and repeat for the previous Index Page.

Keep going until all index pages have been read.

Click, again, on "New" and review anything newer than when the process started. Usually only a few posts. Read/Reply to those, repeat, and eventually!! you get no newer posts in the Index page.

You are done. If a new session starts the "New" option will only show things which are genuinely newer.

If you get in a muddle use the "Quick Links" : "Today's posts" to see posts in chronological order for the last 24 hours (although that is not much help if you have been away for a few days)

    Thanks Kristen,

I do open everything in new tabs but don't always open the index pages in new tabs first.
