If you've been on holiday, live abroad or have just gone to the local zoo or safari park - post your pics of all animals:- mammals, reptiles, amphibians, marine life etc here!

All animals posted must NOT be native to the British Isles (Please see British Wildlife thread for these animals!)

Looking forward to seeing your pics - please say where they were taken!

Let's get this one started as well [IMG]

These are one of my favourite animals.

    The Red Colobus Monkey

The Red Colobus monkeys are found living wild nowhere else in the world but on Zanzibar as they have special dietary requirements. They eat mainly fruit but can only eat it before it gets ripe. Their stomachs cannot take sugars and they can become seriously ill from them. They know when they have a problem with their stomachs (dont we all!) and need to eat minerals to counteract the acidity that has formed from the phenolic acid. They used to find some of the minerals around the island but have now discovered that charcoal does a better job as a medicine so they steal it from the villagers or take it from what is left of their fires.

In the wild they are reputed to shun humans but we found them quite friendly and they seemed just as curious about us as we were about them. I don't whether it is because they are not used to seeing white people!

I climbed a tree to take this next one and they took no notice of me. They probably thought I was a right monkey!

I wondered about your avatar and now all is revealed. The Colobus Monkey photos are full of character, interest and beauty Shiney!

As for the others, I don't know what you are talking about - taking pics of bushes and logs and expecting us to believe there are things on them!!!!

Isn't nature's design and camouflage amazing....

I'm dying to go to Paignton Zoo now and see what's happening there.

        My goodness you HAVE TRAVELLED!!!!!

Great 'in-situ' pics - hundreds of times more impressive seeing them like this than in the zoo.

Anyone ever been to Galapagos Islands? ... Safari?

Unlike the lemurs who stay high up in the canopy the chameleons tend to stay low down in the shade.

These Radiated tortoises were nearby. They are named for the patterns on their backs and tummies.

The ones with the concave undercarriage are the males - so that they can fit on top of the females for mating!

          Reptiletastic!

The first shot of the Chameleon is just incredible.

Pretty torties... and far better in their own country!

The Chameleon photos are stunning Shiney, something I would really like to see in the wild.
In-house Advisor loves Lemurs so she drooled over your pics. :D
