Thinking of putting a lump of money into Premium Bonds. The interest rates we get are so low now on savings it could be an alternative. I realise there is zero interest on PBs but there is the chance of a win. Even just a small win every now and then must surely be better than the very low rates we get at any of the banks ect ?

Thoughts please and anyone done any good with them ?

    Cheers !

Did do them, untill they started to pay £25 in stead of the £50 pay outs , but when you add it all up at the end of the year the % isn't much at the time it was 0.5% but you could win a million and be lucky in getting lots of wins

I took mine out and put it in shares, i've already double my money, but that was a few years back

Same here, several wins overs the last three years but never more than £50, probably more than we would have gained in the next to nothing interest accounts.

I get regular wins of £25 , it's just a gamble some people win a decent amount , most people get nothing.
but then again at least your original investment is safe unlike shares.

Shares are not for us I'm afraid. I have friends who have won and lost in equal measures. My thoughts are if you cant afford to loose it don't gamble it .

        Thanks !

Definitely the right attitude :blue thumb:

Premium Bonds are not a good investment although some people do well out of them. From an investment point of view they're a complete gamble with very poor odds - but your capital is safe.

I've found them to be pretty good during the very low interest rates period where other forms of investment have been almost a guaranteed zero, unlike doing the lottery you dont lose anything whatever happens.
I do think you need a decent amount in there to get much out.
