    Think it's two years

    Look at insuring your wifes car or the childens (if you trust them) to keep no clains, just make sure you have all the right names on the insurance

      Sadly, not an option - I was one of two drivers in the whole family, and the other driver has his car and van insured at his address. I've got 25 years no claims bonus, and assuming that I am going to get the all clear to drive again, that no claims bonus will be needed.

      The normal length of time is two years. Some insurers allow longer. Usually, if you approach your last insurer they may tend to be a bit more lenient than a new one. Some insurers don't allow that length of time but plenty do.
