Well I thought I had been doing really well, but was admitted to hospital again on Monday.
To cut a long story short, there seems to be some confusion as to wether its heart or chest wall pain, and I have to see a cardiologist.
I am also being sent to see a company doctor soon.
Has anyone got experience of being pensioned through ill health at work, or know what it involves? I wanted to retire at 60, not 50  I think my pension would be a very small amount, and I have a mortgage to pay.
I do have some kind of work organised G.I.P (Group income protection), which I think pays 75% of my salary for 5 years if I can't work. I need to look into that because I don't have much info on it. I believe it also makes up the difference if I get a lesser paid job.

Thanks ladies. :grphg: I think many manage on their pensions but not sure how much I would get (not much). Maybe I could get some kind of low income support/esa.
A friend said I could possibly get help with the interest side of my mortgage. Its a repayment mortgage.

Sorry to hear they've had you in hospital again Kev  I imagine chest wall pain would be pretty excrutiating (I had an intercostal rib muscle injury about a year ago and passed out in the bathroom with the pain and that wasn't even a broken rib) so it sounds good that they're checking out whether it may, or may not, be heart pain.

I'm clueless when it comes to your financial options though (its a long, long time since I worked in the financial industry) so just keep checking out every possible option, no matter how remote it may sound, you may hit upon a small piece of info that'll really be helpful.

May be worth seeking out a specialist pension financial adviser? Not sure if any offer free advice nowadays though, but somebody must do. When I worked for Barclays Financial Advisers, they didn't charge the customer a fee but they earned commission from the provider of any business they placed.

Good luck mate :dbgrtmb: take care of yourself :imphrt:

      Thanks petal :spinning:
Yes, I sit at my work bench in agony sometimes. The last bad attack lasted over a week
I had pain right around my upper body. I was hospitalised due to a heavy aching around the area of my heart, plus the other stuff.

Hi Kev(hope you don't think me too forward:smile:)so very sorry to hear you are not in the best of health at the moment.I just though you was busy getting n with other things in life and never thought you was having health problems again.

Our brother in law was made redundant last Xmas although he wasn't able to claim for certain things due to having too much in the way of savings so can only claim £103(not sure of the exact amount) because he has to have injections in his eyes to to diabetic retinopathy so can't get a job until the problem is sorted out but as he doesn't have a mortgage etc is more than happy to stay at home and watch telly all day:mute:

Perhaps @shiney might be able to offer you some advice as he knows some bits about employment laws.

Good Luck and hope that all turns out ok and that things are not as bleak as you imagine:grphg:

        Thanks @Kandy :)
I have read that esa is £123 roughly, I have read so many figures though, that I could be wrong :rolleyespink:. If I get a payout from the company I expect I wont get much entitlement at all. I really need to find out how this mortgage help works. I read a figure of 3.63%. That is my biggest concern......keeping a roof over my head.

I am sorry to hear you are still having all this pain and stuff. I do hope you get it all sorted out soon. Maybe a trip to the C A B would help?
        Get well soon. :)

I don't know what kind of company you work for but do you not have someone within HR who can advise you? As every company pension scheme is different I don't think anyone on here could give a generic answer that would necessarily fit your circumstances.

Sorry to learn about your health problems NG.
If you are a member of a trades union or professional body you ought to be able to seek advice from them regarding you pension entitlement. Once you know what your entitlement is then you could seek advice from an IFA or CAB.

Hi @lost_in_france. I don't really want to mention it to HR for various reasons (early days and not sure it will happen), however, I need to know where I stand in case it does happen. There are lots of things to consider.
My mortgage is my biggest concern, and I have read that I would only get help on my original mortgage (which had 2 years left, until I had to remortgage due to divorce), so I think I can forget any mortgage help . If my M.P. insurance covers me, its only for 12 months.
@Dave W .... We have no union unfortunately, but as you and @Lea suggest, a trip to CAB is needed when I get some holiday (a week or two in Dec :blue thumb:).
If I can claim G.I.P for 5 years, and 'then' get my pension and lump, that would help loads. I will be 55 by then.
