I’ve had a fair few of this plant grow in my garden this year and I’ve no idea what it is.

I left a couple to see if they did anything interesting but finally they are flowering and it looks as though they have… green flowers. Which I find horticulturally a bit pointless. But before ripping out completely I thought I’d just check they aren’t something special or the most delicious plant ever or something

    here it is

A Salvia possibly, or at least that family (Lamiaceae) is the foliage scented?

No - foliage isn’t scented. Well - nothing notable anyway. I checked the other day. But yes - could be some kind of Salvia. There are zillions of them I believe

I'd suggest the flowers are not yet open in the picture, and any flowering could be a very slow process this late in the year.

Yes - fair point… I’ve been willing them along so perhaps they are capable of something spectacular! They grew all over the garden and I didn’t plant them…

If you have got lots of them, might be worth cutting one and putting it in water then place it in a warm windowsill to see if the flowers open.

Perhaps some kind of Amaranth? Not the popular one with red flowers but a wilder type... Viridis or the like?

OK! It flowered. Sort of. But maybe this is enough for someone here? (Apologies for woeful photopgraphy: it was freezing!)

@JimmyB I would hazard a guess at Salvia. If it warms up a bit and the plant stops shivering, a better photo of the flowers would be useful.

It looks like Chia (salvia hispanica) I tried growing it last year but it didn't flower for me. Also I don't think it had strong fragrant leaves like the rest of the salvia family.
