Anyone tell me what this is on my cordyline pls?

    my Cordyline had some winter damage so i removed dead leaves and found this, they have been getting bigger everyday,can anyone tell me what it is as I thought cordylines only greww one stalk with flowers

    Its a flower stalk alright

      is it common to have so many flower stalks from one cordyline it is only about 4ft high

      Not quite sure what you mean by, " so many flower stalks", that is only one stalk in the picture, or are you referring to flower stalks of previous years?
      After the stem flowers it branches, the branches then go on to flower, not always but possibly the following year.
      Some times the head can get congested and the branching might not be apparent for a couple of years.

      It maybe the way I have taken the photo, the bit in the middle is where the leaves are growing,I was refering to all the other plant like growth with little bobbles (lol) may be better to take another pic as they have grown since this one was taken

      You wont get any proper leaves forming on the stem that is suddenly shooting up, the whole thing is the flower spike.
      Flower spikes consist of a fast growing branched stem that contains hundreds of separate flowers.
      That flowering stem later dies back to the main plant, but by then you should have a couple of new growing points formed from the base of that flower stem.

      Your not sounding stupid, its quite a strange flower, and interesting to watch it develop.

        It's not a stupid question poohpouri, flower stalks can be quite weird in the early stages. Keep an eye on it to see how it develops, it will be fascinating :thumbsup:
