Now @ARMANDII sir! :) As our official expert on Clematis can you give me the gen on your namesake please? I know it has a lengthy spread but will it take over the garden if allowed? I'm considering it for a boundary fence, would it be too heavy? Ideally I would prefer a similar Clematis with a spread of around 15/20ft maximum but finding something isn't easy.

I wish!!:dunno::heehee: If there's one thing I've learnt in Life it's that I've never been an expert in anything:dunno::heehee:

However, when it comes to the Clematis Armandii I do know a little, from experience:gaah:, that might help, Sheal. Sooooooooooo, if it's an evergreen Clematis you have in mind then the Armandii isn't a bad choice.......with a few proviso's:heehee: Firstly, the good news C.Armandii will, in ideal conditions have a spread to around 30'. But, like all evergreen clematis, needs some shelter from strong winds.

Well, that would depend on the strength of the boundary fence rather than the weight of the C. Armandii. It's not heavy as such but the stems and leaves are more substantial and thicker than other clematis, but I regard that as a good thing rather than a negative. My C.Armandii's has lost the plot this year because they have not just flowered in Spring but also at times during the Summer and now the Autumn.....not that I'm complaining.:snork:

Other Evergreen Clematis to think about are:
      C.Appleblossom [Armandii]
      Cartmanii Avalanche
      Cirrhosa Balearica
      C.Calycina
      Cartmanii Early Sensation
      C.Emerald Dream
      Cartmanii Fragrant Oberon
      Cirrhosa Jingle Bells

You underestimate your abilities and I for one certainly trust them. :dbgrtmb:

Well, that's put pay to Armandii then, the fence faces south-west, is unsheltered and where the prevailing wind comes from. :doh:Hmmm, perhaps I'll have to think on something other than Clematis.

I'll have a look at the others you have suggested and see if any will suit the site, thanks Armandii. :)

Which is why I mentioned the need for shelter, Shea. I can't think of any climbers that will suit such a position, to be honest:dunno: You might have to think Shrubs instead, such as Escallonia, Elaeagnus, Fuchsia Riccartonii, Rosa rugosa, Olearia macrodonta or O. traversii, or maybe Berberis or Tamarisk.:coffee::snork:

The area is partly between the garden boundary and my carport which is only 4ft across so shrubs aren't possible. I wish I could put some pictures up of the area but that's not possible until I get my new computer. :doh:Perhaps I'll have to think artificial! :heehee:

I`ve got 2 Pyracantha you can have @Sheal , lovely orange berries, just in the wrong place. The thorns are wicked, thinking if you need to brush close getting in and out of the car.

Would it be possible to put in more "restrained" Shrubs, Sheal??. There's Osmanthus [evergreen], Daphne, Skimmia, Cystisus, Hebe, Phlomis, Deutzia, Potentilla

I don't know! I can't leave you lot alone for long can I, you soon get into mischief.:heehee: Either that or you're taking advantage of my current disablement. :th scifD36: Not having a 'puter is quite an affliction, even my camera's are suffering withdrawal! :ouch1: Having said that the new one arrived today, so if I'm lucky it'll be up and running by the weekend if I can get my head round Windows 10. :)

I'm allowed to say it but it's whether I make use of it.

Not Honeysuckle Anthony, my neighbour's just had to despatch a large one from the same area to build his new shed.

Pyracantha, nasty stuff @pamsdish! It's in the same category as the islands Gorse..... painful close encounters ! :ouch1:

Thanks for your suggestions all, but it has to be climber/s. Shrubs won't work in the available space (oh for pictures! :wallbanging: ) There is a new fence on the boundary between myself and my neighbours place, my kitchen looks onto it through my carport. Immediately beyond that is also there newly erected shed, 10 x 10ft that I now look at the back of, this is what needs disguising with climbers.

It can be, Sheal. It can also grow more than 12' in height and around 8' in width so it would outgrow that space anyway. But I have a 35 year old Pyracantha at the side of my House which, because there are so many birds living in it, the neighbours call "Hotel Pyracantha":heehee:

I've given up on finding an appropriate climber as such for the above area and have decided to grow some annual ones from seed to give me quicker cover. I want to spend as little on the garden as possible now so seeds will give me what I need. First on the list is Asarina. :)
