I'm not a veggie gardener but I love asparagus so this year (now I have time) I bought some asparagus seed. 200 of them. About 75% germination rate and I've just started planting out to the bed. Help! What do I do for the next 3 years or so? Feeding, using, thinning. Any advice will be gratefully received because I don't know the first thing about it (apart from it has a very good germination rate).:D

John, why didn`t you just go to Wilkos and buy some roots? They are only a couple of quid for 3. And you would have a little picking off them next year.:D:thumb:

John, you think you are going to be cropping in 3 years? Expect to crop in 5. When they are ready to plant out. dig a trench about 2ft wide and about 18" deep. In this trench place a load of well rotted manure. Form the manure into a mound the length of the trench. Spread the Asparagus roots out on top of this mound, spacing them about 2ft apart, and cover with about 6" of soil. You need to keep the bed weeded as they don`t like competition. No need to feed just mulch the bed with manure every autumn. :thumb:
