This year's winner, Gary from Sunderland, is truly an inspirational gardener. His back yard was just a concrete box, no soil at all. This was the starting point:

    B&Q article

"Gary transformed his 4.5m x 3.5m concrete yard into a green oasis, complete with a vertical irrigated plant wall, an ornamental fishpond, and even Church Tracery panels – the perfect place for him and his partner, Lindsey, to de-stress and unwind."

    Sunderland echo

I like it, very creative and escapist! Isn't it strange how adding loads of plants to a garden can make it look a fair bit bigger? :dunno::)

It's especially impressive that he didn't buy it off the shelf but painstakingly spent years hunting for used and salvaged materials. In today's world of instant gratification that is rare.

His garden has magic atmosphere :)

I can see your point, makes “Gannin te the netty” more difficult, especially in the dark.

I'm out of order here probably, but not aimed directly at this garden, but are we seeing more TWEE gardens around, I had to look up that word, but I think it fits lots of ones I'm seeing on the web lately.

I'd like to click agree pete but I haven't noticed any, then again I hardly get out and don't watch much telly. It doesn't surprise me though, we know there has been a massive increase in number of people trying their hand at gardening, plus everyone around here is having a home study added or a garden room (fancy shed). There is a lot of money around with people working from home saving commuting costs, they have to spend it on something.

I'm basically getting at the kind of totally impractical stuff you see being done in gardens, I think Chelsea is probably what sets this kind of thing off, but it gets worse if you look at what some people are doing.;)

                        Wot, no veg!

Nor greenhouse, or anywhere for DIY, chainsawing logs, dismantling pallets, potting stuff up, etc., more like a flower show display than a practical garden area (and chickens and/or ducks would make a right mess of it).

Every planning application around here describes the additional accommodation as home offices, home gym, studies, playrooms, etc., as it means the applicant isn't required to provide additional car parking as they aren't increasing the number of bedrooms.

And most of the the 'garden' buildings are actually self contained units of accommodation for their kids to live in because they can't afford to buy, and plan to live in a shed in their parents' garden until they can save a deposit.

I guess you have no option with a yard that small and walls all around.
