just getting in my car and spotted this sweetie. Have left it alone as know theyre common now but is this one still too young and fluffy. Need to go out now but scared of leaving it as there are some evil cats around here. Hope it'll be ok.

He will be ok as long as he still has a parent - or better still, both parents. The Mistle thrush in my avatar was found next to his dead mum and was dehydrating fast. I called him Melvin, and he and several other rescued baby birds will be delivered here from our local wildlife rescue to be looked after for the day. They are all being demand fed throughout the day, so I shall have my hands full. I`ll try and get some photos tomorrow.

It looks like it has fallen from a nest, as it has no tail feathers so unable to fly therefore very vunerable.

Keep an eye on it. The parents are probably nearby and will attend to it's needs better than you. If there is no sign of a parent in a day or so you will need to step in. Most likely the parents are aware but if not after a reasonable length of time and there is no sign of them it will need rescuing. The main thing is not to take it away from attentive parents.

Oh no! He was chirruping and bounced off. He hadn't fallen out the trees above as there weren't any nests. I came back an hour later and he wasn't around. My neighbour said there was a baby robin bouncing about earlier in the week too.

Just been out having another look for it with my torch. Couldn't see or hear it anywhere. Hope it's ok and the cat hasn't got the poor thing.

I might get some mealworms in for emergencies...

Nine times out of ten, the birds will sort themselves out. it is always best to just observe what is happening, and be ready to act if needed. Most areas in the UK have rescue centres that can be contacted if necessary, and it`s worth finding your local one to add a number on your phone.
We feed nestlings and fledglings with a liquid concoction and use syringes for this. The parent birds will naturally produce this liquid feed for the babies just as we do for ours. We are nowhere as good at this as the parent birds, but have managed to get quite a few through to maturity. It is a long process. The little ones have a different vision of who is 'mum or dad' and before they are released back to the wild they need to be --- a bit like plants, '' hardened off''

Better get some sleep - am on mummy day care in the morning :snooze:

Good idea @Jiffy about getting the local rescue number just in case. I'll do that today.

How are the little birdies today?
